TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's Hajj Affairs Office has asked the relevant parties to provide appropriate compensation for Indonesian Umrah pilgrims affected by a bus fire en route to Medina, Saudi Arabia.

“We are communicating with the muassasah so that the pilgrims receive proper compensation, given that all of their belongings burned in the incident,” said M. Ilham Effendy, Hajj Technical Staff at the Hajj Affairs Office (KUH), in his statement in Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by Antara.

However, he revealed that all 24 Indonesian pilgrims on the bus were unharmed and quickly evacuated. The fire occurred while the bus was traveling about 50 kilometers outside the city of Medina, after passing the last checkpoint from Mecca, on Thursday, March 26, at local time.

He said that the driver acted swiftly, stopping the vehicle when trouble appeared and immediately evacuating all the passengers.

Through the KUH, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that all pilgrims continued their journey on replacement buses provided by the relevant parties and have now arrived in Medina in stable condition.

Following the incident, he ensured that coordination with service providers in Saudi Arabia continued to meet the needs of the pilgrims.

Additionally, the ministry urged all organizers of the Umrah pilgrimage to improve transportation safety standards to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims in the Holy Land.
