TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Saturday, August 9, 2025, Israeli forces killed 47 people in an attack in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that 11 Palestinians died from starvation.
Since the war began, the total number of deaths related to malnutrition has reached 212, including 98 children. “Starvation has become a serious issue in Gaza, especially among children and the elderly,” said Mohammed Abu Salmiya, Director of Al-Shifa Hospital in North Gaza, to Al Jazeera.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Israel’s decision to take control of the Gaza Strip, calling it a serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Following a cabinet meeting, Indonesia expressed readiness to support efforts against the occupation plan. After negotiations with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas failed to reach a resolution, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the plan.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the UN Security Council to take concrete steps to halt Israel’s actions. Indonesia remains steadfast in its support for Palestine.
Aid for Palestine
Foreign Minister Sugiono announced the delivery of rice aid to Palestine. “We will send 10,000 tons of rice aid. If possible, it should be delivered by land routes. That is what we are working on,” he said on Thursday, August 7, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
While the exact timing of the aid delivery remains uncertain, Sugiono said Indonesia also received an invitation to provide aid via airdrop, coordinated through Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
“This [airdrop] is in addition to the rice aid. It is other aid,” Sugiono clarified, without specifying the exact form of this assistance.
Rina Setyawati, Director of International Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to increasing aid capacity for Palestine.
The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) has sent 55,000 aid packages to help address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, aiming to reduce the threat of starvation among civilians, including children and the elderly.
“This aid is a trust from the Indonesian people collected through Baznas. We want to ensure it reaches those most in need in Palestine,” said Noor Achmad, Chairman of Baznas, to Antara on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The packages contain essential food items and ready-to-eat meals such as rice, flour, instant noodles, cheese, tuna, date biscuits, juice, energy biscuits, dates, nuts, as well as sauces and seasonings.
