Indonesian Govt Forecasts Hot Weather During Hajj in Saudi Arabia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry predicts that the weather in Saudi Arabia will be hot until the peak of the 1446 Hijri Hajj pilgrimage.

"Especially during the wukuf in Arafah, which is estimated to take place on June 5, 2025, will certainly be in hot weather in the Holy Land," said the Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organization of Religious Affairs Ministry, Hilman Latief, in a press conference at the Hajj Dormitory Building in Pondok Indah, East Jakarta, on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Therefore, Hilman said they and the hajj officials have provided some recommendations to mitigate the number of pilgrims who collapse. Some of these recommendations are that pilgrims must always pay attention to their health and ensure that their bodies are in prime condition.

"They must drink enough water, and there is also a method that supposedly requires frequent drinking, but not too much to avoid dehydration," said Hilman.

Furthermore, Hilman added that pilgrims who arrive in Madinah earlier must also regulate their worship rituals, especially for rituals that are sunnah in nature. "Because the main goal is the Hajj worship. Maintain the energy, so that at the peak of the Hajj, all pilgrims are in a fit condition," he said.

However, Hilman mentioned that they are still preparing measures to address any unfortunate events. "Our team, the officers, including medical personnel, and the entire team from the Religious Affairs Ministry, have prepared what needs to be done," said Hilman.

This year, Indonesia will send more than 200,000 Hajj pilgrims. The breakdown includes 201,063 regular pilgrims, 1,572 regional officers, 685 guides of the Hajj and Umrah Worship Guidance Group, and 17,680 special pilgrims.

Hilman explained, at the initial stage, 7,514 hajj pilgrims from 19 embarkation points across Indonesia will depart for Madinah on early Friday, May 2, 2025. "They will fly to Saudi Arabia at 00.45 WIB, using Garuda Indonesia aircraft," said Hilman.

He said that hundreds of thousands of pilgrims have started entering the embarkation dormitories since this morning and will be dispatched gradually until the peak of the hajj pilgrimage in June. Hilman ensured that all preparations for the departure to the reception of hajj pilgrims had been completed.

"Our hajj officers, both in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, are ready to provide the best services, not only in terms of accommodation, transportation, and consumption, but also in worship guidance and consultation," he said.
