TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Singapore Air Force military aircraft was tracked passing through Indonesian airspace on Thursday morning, September 25, 2025. First Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana, Chief of the Air Force Information Service, described the incident as routine.
“Many aircraft from neighboring countries pass through Indonesian airspace,” he said when contacted on the same day.
The aircraft was observed over Jakarta, and its movements were captured on the Flightradar24 website. It took off from Paya Lebar Air Base in Singapore, but the flight destination of SAF9589 was listed as unavailable. By Thursday afternoon at 12:50 PM WIB, the aircraft had left Indonesian airspace.
Nyoman emphasized that foreign military aircraft are allowed to enter Indonesian airspace provided they have obtained official permission. These permits are managed directly by the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters.
“If a foreign aircraft has clearance from TNI Headquarters, there is no problem. Indonesia extends the same courtesy when its aircraft fly over neighboring countries,” he said.
He added that the TNI would take action against any foreign military aircraft entering Indonesian airspace without approval, including the possibility of forcing the aircraft to land at the nearest airfield in accordance with the law.
The Indonesian Air Force has yet to confirm the reason for the Singaporean flight. Nyoman clarified that the passage of SAF9589 was not related to the upcoming 80th Anniversary of the Indonesian Armed Forces on October 5.
Brigadier General Freddy Ardianzah, Head of the Information Center at TNI Headquarters, confirmed that the aircraft had received the necessary permission. The clearance was granted by both the Armed Forces Headquarters and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The application came from the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta on behalf of the Republic of Singapore Air Force,” he said.
