TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta has established a sister city partnership with the Special Autonomous Province of Jeju in South Korea.

The sister city partnership is a collaboration between two parties—whether cities, regencies, provinces, or countries—that share general similarities in demographics, geography, history, and other issues related to development.

"First, we are collaborating on the tourism sector, as well as renewable energy and the digital economy," said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in his statement on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

According to him, Jeju is a strategic partner, especially in the development of tourism and sustainable energy.

Pramono is optimistic that the collaboration with Jeju will accelerate Jakarta's vision of becoming a Top 50 Global Cities by 2030.

In principle, he said, the collaboration between Jakarta and Jeju also fosters government-to-government, business-to-business, and people-to-people relationships.

"I'm truly delighted. This is a sister city project, and hopefully, its implementation on the ground will run smoothly, bringing benefits and prosperity to both parties," said Pramono.

The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Jeju Governor Oh Young-hun at the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
