TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The regency of Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia, now houses the Kartini Museum. The museum, located in the Pendopo Kabupaten Jepara, the official residence of the regent, was inaugurated by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon on Saturday, October 15, 2025.
Fadli Zon stated that the museum has become a center for education, a historical tourist destination, and a cultural space that embodies Kartini's spirit. "The Kartini Museum is not only a space for history, but it can also be an educational destination and a cultural activity center for the community," said Fadli Zon in a press release in Jakarta on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
He mentioned that the exhibition layout and storyline of the museum have been organized very well. "What used to be a house has now become the Kartini Museum. This reflects our commitment to advancing our national culture," he said.
However, he emphasized the need for the government's support in developing the museum, including digital and immersive enhancements, as well as facilitating cultural and educational activities. He expressed that the addition of digital elements such as immersive experiences or documentary clips will enrich visitors' experiences and provide a more interactive learning approach.
He also hopes that the museum can serve as a tourist destination and offer educational experiences for children, while also becoming a cultural economic engine through merchandise and local creativity.
Furthermore, Minister Fadli Zon highlighted the inspirational values of Raden Ajeng Kartini (RA Kartini) that are relevant to the new generation, including millennials and Gen Z. "Kartini, despite her short life of only 25 years, has been a great inspiration, especially for women, to obtain rights, positions, and education," he stated.
The museum is expected to be a leading destination for both local and international tourists, as well as a source of inspiration for the younger generation to understand and emulate Kartini's spirit of emancipation and her values. In addition to preserving history, the museum is also expected to drive cultural economy through collaboration with local artists, creative products, and interactive educational activities, making it a driving force for culture and creativity in Indonesia.
The official residence of the Regent of Jepara, where the Kartini Museum is located, was where Kartini grew up from childhood to adolescence. After her marriage, she accompanied her husband, the Regent of Rembang at the time, R. M. Djojoadiningrat.
In Rembang, there is also a museum dedicated to RA Kartini. Established on the initiative of the Regent of Rembang at the time, Adnan Widodo (1967), this museum is dedicated to commemorate the services of the women's emancipation figure R.A. Kartini. When it was first opened, the museum was only the size of the room where R.A. Kartini stayed during her time as the wife of the Regent of Rembang, R.M.A.A DjojoAdhiningrat, and was therefore called the RA. Kartini Memorial Room Museum.
