TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has blocked around 1.3 million online gambling contents since President Prabowo Subianto assumed office on October 20, 2024, to April 23, 2025. Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said these numbers consist of 1,192,000 gambling sites and 12 thousand contents on social media.
"These numbers reflect a real threat in the digital space that disturbs national security and order," Meutya said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
Meutya stated that a massive spike in harmful content such as online gambling and child sexual abuse materials in Indonesia's digital space continues to be an ever-evolving threat to the national cybersecurity, which the state must swiftly tackle.
To combat these challenges, Meutya strengthened digital surveillance and law enforcement through strategic collaboration with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). In addition, Komdigi has also launched a Content Moderation Compliance System, which requires digital platforms to follow up on high-risk content within four hours and other harmful content within 24 hours.
Komdigi also issues the regulation on the governance of electronic systems in protecting children in the digital space, which aims to bolster child protection on the internet.
"The development of a healthy and safe digital space is not only the responsibility of the government but also the result of collaboration from all parties," she said.
On the same occasion, BPK member Akhsanul Khaq said that Komdigi has followed up on 82.2 percent of the BPK examination recommendations. According to him, this figure is far above the national average of 75 percent.
Akhsanul also underscored the resolution of state losses, which shows significant progress. "Hopefully, this collaboration will continue to strengthen the nation's digital resilience," he said.
