TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, believes that the establishment of the Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) is unnecessary for uncovering the case of human rights activist Andrie Yunus. He stated that the investigation of the acid attack case has already been transferred to the military police.
"If TGPF is formed, then it's actually not necessary because it has been transferred to the Military Police (Puspom TNI)," he said when met at the DPR complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
He mentioned that forming a new fact-finding team is only needed if the investigative process does not go through the military. "If it has been transferred, the rest will be handled by the military," said this NasDem Party politician.
Prior to the meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives' Commission III, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) urged President Prabowo Subianto to establish a joint fact-finding team to uncover the full details of Andrie Yunus's case.
Andrie's legal team stated that in history, the TGPF has played a role in uncovering various past human rights violation cases, such as the murder of Munir Said, the Kanjuruhan incident, and the Cicak-Buaya conflict in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Representative of TAUD, Gema Gita Persada, stated that the establishment of an independent fact-finding team aims to uncover the intellectual authors in Andrie Yunus' case. She also believed that the TGPF should play a more comprehensive role in investigating the alleged chain of command.
TAUD believes that the acid attack on Andrie Yunus was orchestrated by individuals with power in certain institutions. Therefore, the possibility of a chain of command needs to be investigated by an independent TGPF involving civilian society and figures of integrity.
According to her, the establishment of an independent TGPF is not only capable of fully uncovering the case of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. Gema also stated that an investigation of human rights violations by official TGPF intervention could prevent similar events from happening again.
"So, the push to form an independent fact-finding team is not only aimed at uncovering the case, but further aims to uphold the future of democracy. We hope that Andrie's case will be the last," she said at the YLBHI office, Jakarta, on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Another TAUD member, Fadhil Alfathan, believes that there is no reason for the state not to accommodate the public's aspiration to establish an independent TGPF in the investigation of Andrie Yunus' case. According to him, President Prabowo Subianto must promptly and officially establish an independent TPF with clear authority and duties.
"And it should be filled with figures of integrity from various disciplines," he said at the YLBHI office, Jakarta, on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Moreover, he stated that two weeks after Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid, there has been no significant progress in the police investigation. On March 18, the police only announced the two perpetrators who were the field executors.
Meanwhile, at the same time, the military stated that they had arrested four suspects involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. All four are active-duty soldiers serving in the Strategic Intelligence Detachment of the TNI headquarters.
According to Fadhil, the stagnation of the investigation process by law enforcement officials is suspected to be due to non-juridical factors. He is concerned that political obstacles may hinder the completion of the investigation into the chain of command.
"The President can prevent further political effects by forming an independent fact-finding team in accordance with the public's desire for the process of uncovering the acid attack case to be oriented towards justice," said the Director of LBH Jakarta.
