According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Strawberry Moon will reach peak illumination on Monday, June 29, at 7:56 p.m. ET. USA Today also notes that the moon will appear nearly full for a few days before and after its peak.
Where will the 2026 Strawberry Moon be visible?
The 2026 Strawberry Moon will be visible to skywatchers across much of the world. In the Northern Hemisphere, the full moon will rise in the southeast and remain relatively low in the sky. Meanwhile, observers in the Southern Hemisphere will see it rise in the southeast, climb across the northern sky, and set in the southwest, according to The Economic Times.
Why is the Strawberry Moon so special?
The Strawberry Moon is special for its distinctive nickname. The name originated with the Native American Algonquian, who associated June's full moon with the brief season for harvesting wild strawberries.
Despite its fruity name, the Strawberry Moon doesn’t actually appear strawberry-like. However, it may take on a reddish or golden hue when it sits close to the horizon, as its light passes through the thickest layers of Earth's atmosphere.
