TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has proposed awarding state honors to the leaders of Indonesia's sovereign wealth management agency Danantara, praising their work in managing state assets.
Prabowo made the proposal during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.
The session featured a report on the performance of state institutions and Prabowo's state address ahead of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.
During his address, Prabowo commended Danantara's management and leadership for their handling of state assets.
“I think Danantara's leaders deserve appropriate state honors during this Independence Day period,” Prabowo said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
He then asked lawmakers attending the session whether they agreed with the proposal, a practice commonly seen during parliamentary proceedings.
“Does the assembly agree? Do they deserve to receive state honors? They deserve them, right?” he said.
Danantara, formally known as the BPI Danantara, was established as Indonesia's state asset management agency and oversees assets and investments linked to state-owned enterprises.
More State Honors Planned
The proposed honors for Danantara leaders come as the government prepares to award state decorations, medals and other honors to a range of Indonesian figures as part of the country's Independence Day celebrations.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said several ministers still serving in President Prabowo's Red-and-White Cabinet are also expected to receive awards this year.
However, he said the recipients would come from a range of backgrounds.
“We are still finalizing the list, but we can ensure there will be a wide variety [of recipients],” Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 12.
Prasetyo said one group being considered includes individuals who have made significant contributions to the technology sector, including those whose work has resulted in internationally recognized patents.
“For example, individuals who have devoted themselves to technology and developed technological patents that are recognized internationally,” he said.
Honors to Be Awarded After Independence Day
The state honors are expected to be presented about a week after the Independence Day ceremony.
Indonesia will mark its 81st Independence Day with the main ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, August 17.
“The plan is for it to take place one week after the Proclamation anniversary ceremony,” Prasetyo said.
