TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Malaysian government has extended its agreement with underwater exploration company Ocean Infinity for another 12 months to continue the search for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean.
Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced on Monday, June 29, 2026, that the Cabinet approved the extension last Friday. The renewed agreement will take effect from July 1, 2026, until June 30, 2027, Loke said in a statement.
"This extension maintains all the main terms and conditions of the existing agreement, including the implementation of the 'no find, no fee' principle. Under this agreement, the government will not make any payment to Ocean Infinity if the aircraft wreckage is not found," he said, as quoted by Antara.
Loke added that the Malaysian government will pay Ocean Infinity US$70 million if the company successfully locates the aircraft wreckage. The payment will only be made upon the successful discovery of the missing plane, in accordance with the "no find, no fee" arrangement.
According to Loke, the extension will allow Ocean Infinity to complete its search in the remaining search area, which spans 7,428.54 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China, carrying 239 passengers and crew.
Despite one of the largest and most expensive aviation search operations in history, the aircraft has never been found, and its disappearance remains one of the world's greatest aviation mysteries.
