TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that many students of SMAN 72 Jakarta high school requested to transfer schools after the explosion incident on November 7. Pramono admitted that he did not expect the impact of the incident to be significant enough to traumatize the students.
"Apparently, the impact was beyond my expectations. Many students then requested to transfer schools. This is also what concerns me," Pramono said after attending an event at the Ministry of Education and Culture Office, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
The school blast incident that occurred on Friday afternoon, November 7, 2025, left at least 96 people injured, including the perpetrator. Pramono instructed the headmaster of SMAN 72 Jakarta and the Head of the Jakarta Education Office to promptly decide on steps to recover from the trauma of the students and parents.
"So it can be formulated properly, because I don't want the impact to linger," Pramono said.
Currently, learning at SMAN 72 is still conducted online. The headmistress of SMAN 72 Jakarta, Tetty Helena Tampubolon, stated that the students would continue to study from home until next week. "Monday will definitely be online learning," Tetty said when met at the North Jakarta Mayor's Office on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
According to Tetty, currently, the parents have not agreed to allow their children to return to school. She explained that some children are still traumatized by the explosion incident that occurred during Friday prayers last week.
From the police investigation, the suspected perpetrator was said to feel lonely and have no space to express his grievances to friends or family. The police stated that the child facing the law is potentially charged under Article 80 paragraph 2 jo Article 76C of the Child Protection Law, Article 355 of the Criminal Code, Article 187 of the Criminal Code, and Article 1 paragraph 1 of Emergency Law Number 12 Year 1951.
