TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi announced that 16,000 guests will attend the 80th Indonesian Independence Day celebration at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on August 17, 2025, with 8,000 people in each of the morning and afternoon sessions.
"On this occasion, on behalf of the committee, we apologize if, due to limited space, many enthusiastic people who wish to attend cannot be accommodated," Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
He explained that official invitees are expected to wear traditional attire as in previous years, while the general public is not required to follow a specific dress code.
"The important thing is the spirit. If you have red clothing at home, in shades of red and white, and want to wear it, then Alhamdulillah (praise to God)," Prasetyo said.
The event will include performances by community groups, government institutions, and art groups. Prasetyo noted that numerous proposals have been submitted to make the celebration livelier.
"There are many dynamic ideas and suggestions. Some have proposed additions. For the committee, as long as these can be included without disrupting the main event, there is no problem, because everyone shares the spirit of participation," he said.
In the lead-up to the celebration, 76 candidates for the 2025 national Flag Hoisting Troop (Paskibraka) held a rehearsal in the Merdeka Palace courtyard in Central Jakarta, practicing the flag-raising ceremony despite the rain. Many of them were seen wearing red and black training uniforms with red hats.
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the 2025 national Paskibraka candidates at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
