TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A letter landed on the desk of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chair Setyo Budiyanto on Saturday, June 6, 2026. It came from Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes at the Attorney General’s Office (AGO).
In the letter, Syarief informed Setyo that prosecutors had issued a new investigation order in the corruption case involving the free nutritious meal (MBG) program, naming Asep Yusuf Sumantri as a new suspect. At that time, prosecutors had not yet publicly announced Asep’s suspect status.
Syarief confirmed that his office had sent the notification of the commencement of the investigation to the KPK. Under procedure, the AGO must notify the KPK whenever both institutions are handling the same case. “This applies to every suspect, not just Asep,” Syarief said when Tempo met him at his office on Tuesday, June 23.
Three days before the letter was sent, prosecutors had named former National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Chief Dadan Hindayana and his two deputies, Lodewyk Pusung and Sony Sonjaya, as suspects in the alleged MBG corruption case. All three had been detained since June 3, 2026.
