Pegadaian Bullion Bank Deposits Reach 700 Kilograms in First Month

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Pegadaian Bullion Bank service has stored 700 kilograms of gold deposits within one month of its launch by President Prabowo Subianto. This information comes from PT Pegadaian, a subsidiary of state lender Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) specializing in pawnshop services, which now manages the bullion bank.

Riana Rifani, Head of the Communication Department at Pegadaian, stated that gold deposits have become the most popular product offered by the Pegadaian Bullion Bank service.

"To date, thankfully, gold deposits have continued to increase daily, reaching 700 kilograms, nearly one ton," said Fani in Cikini, Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

She explained that gold deposits increased rapidly after President Prabowo's official inauguration. At the launch, the Pegadaian Bullion Bank service held approximately 300 kilograms of gold. This figure rose to 500 kilograms just one day after the February 26, 2025, inauguration.

She expressed Pegadaian's hope that other products offered by the gold bank service will achieve similar success to the deposit product. She mentioned that the Pegadaian Gold Bank Service offers three additional products: gold working capital loans, gold savings, and gold trading. "We hope the other products will perform as well as the gold deposits in the future," she said.

Prabowo launched the Pegadaian Bullion Bank Service at The Gade Tower in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The launch was marked by the President, along with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, President Director of Pegadaian Damar Latri Setiawan, and President Director of Bank Syariah Indonesia Hery Gunardi, placing gold bars into a treasure box.

The bullion bank is a key initiative of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka government. The government introduced these banks to develop and optimize the domestic management of gold resources.

"As we approach 80 years of independence, we are proud that for the first time in the history of the Indonesian nation, which holds the 6th largest gold reserve in the world, we will have a Gold Bank," said Prabowo during the bank's inauguration.
