TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Tasikmalaya City Police has arrested three individuals suspected of distributing counterfeit money: CCN and S, both 40, and UU, 64. They were apprehended in Singarani Village, Cikadongdong, Singaparna District, Tasikmalaya Regency, on Tuesday, March 25.

Tasikmalaya City Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Moh. Faruk Rozi stated that the case was uncovered following an investigation into the increasing circulation of counterfeit money in the area. Authorities received information that CCN planned a transaction in Mangkubumi, Tasikmalaya City. "Officers acted immediately and arrested the three at 03:00," Faruk said in a written statement.

Police seized evidence, including Rp28.7 million in counterfeit Rp100,000 bills, a counterfeit money detector, and three mobile phones used in the transactions.

Faruk explained that the suspects obtained the counterfeit money from a supplier named Darsono in Cijantung, East Jakarta, purchasing it for Rp4 million. "They intended to resell it for Rp5 million, making a profit of Rp1 million," he said.

The suspects have been charged under Article 36, Paragraph (2) of Law No. 7/2021 on Currency, in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code. They face up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to Rp10 billion.

Faruk stated that police are continuing to investigate the broader counterfeit money network. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected circulation of counterfeit money.
