TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to expedite emergency response efforts for the landslide in Cilacap, Central Java. Currently, it is known that there are still dozens of people missing due to the Cilacap landslide.
"The President expresses his condolences. He has instructed the BNPB to move to the field and assist in handling the landslide in Majenang until the emergency response period is over," said Budi Irawan, the Deputy for Emergency Response at BNPB, in his statement on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
At present, according to Budi, a total of 512 personnel from joint task forces have been deployed for landslide management. The joint personnel are from various agencies including Basarnas, BPBD, TNI, Polri, Tagana, and various other volunteer organizations.
BNPB has also increased the number of heavy equipment to eight units and deployed search and rescue dogs (K9) to expedite the search for landslide victims in the village of Cibeunying, Majenang district, Cilacap. The search operation is being conducted very carefully given the difficult terrain, coupled with ongoing light to moderate rain, which poses a risk of further landslides.
The Cilacap landslide occurred on Thursday, November 13, 2025, around 19:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Times). As a result of this incident, 16 houses in two hamlets were buried.
On the third day of the search, rescuers found 9 fatalities and are still searching for 14 others. Meanwhile, several families living near the landslide area have already evacuated to safer places under the supervision of the joint search and rescue team.
BNPB urges residents to remain cautious as light to moderate rain is still expected until Sunday, November 16, 2025, especially in the Majenang basin area, which is at risk of soil movement.
