TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the 2026 Easter celebration in Manado, North Sulawesi, according to Nasaruddin Umar, the country's Minister of Religious Affairs.
"The culmination of the national Easter celebration will take place in Manado, North Sulawesi. Hopefully, the event will be smooth-sailing and successful," as quoted from an official statement on the Ministry of Religious Affairs' website on Friday, April 3, 2026.
According to Nasaruddin, the National Easter celebration this year is a statewide event that is hoped to foster togetherness among religious communities. "This year's Easter celebration must be better than the previous ones. Everybody shall celebrate," Nasaruddin said.
The Chair of the National Easter Celebration 2026 Committee, Recky H. Langie, reported to Nasaruddin that the Easter celebrations in Manado will take place from April 7 to 9, 2026.
The culmination of celebrations is scheduled for April 8 and will be held in an open space. "Hopefully, the Minister of Religious Affairs can attend the 2026 Easter observation," Recky said.
In mid-March, Minister Nasaruddin reminded that several major religious days would occur close together, even simultaneously, this year, namely Nyepi Day, Eid al-Fitr, and Easter.
Nasaruddin urged religious leaders to strengthen the message of peace, fraternity, and harmony in society.
According to Nasaruddin, religious leaders serve a vital role in maintaining harmony and peace in the diverse society of Indonesia. "These major religious holidays must serve as a momentum for peace to strengthen fraternity, instead of unraveling it," the minister said on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
He explained that every religious celebration brings universal values that calls for a better social life. Nyepi teaches reflection and self-control, Eid al-Fitr emphasizes the value of forgiveness and strengthened kinship, while Easter brings a message of hope and love.
