TEMPO.COJakarta - The head of SMAN 72 Jakarta high school, Tetty Helena Tampubolon, stated that the school will continue online learning for its students in the upcoming week following the explosion incident on November 7. Students will continue to study from home.

"Next Monday will definitely still be online learning," Tetty said when met at the North Jakarta Mayor's Office on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

According to Tetty, currently, the parents have not agreed to send their children back to school. She mentioned that some students are still traumatized by the explosion that occurred during last week's Friday prayer.

"We are still monitoring and assuring with their parents whether they can continue online learning or have hybrid learning. We need to make sure that the parents approve," Tetty added.

Tetty also expressed her hope for all SMAN 72 high school students to recover soon and return to school. "My message is for the children to pray and stay strong, hopefully, they will recover soon, so they won't fall behind in their studies compared to other schools," she said.

As of now, the school is still awaiting the official investigation results from the incident. Tetty mentioned that some students are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, had previously given SMAN 72 the freedom to decide whether the learning activities will be conducted online or in-person. He only hopes that the learning activities at the school can return to normal next week. "Those who want online learning are allowed, and those who want in-person are also allowed. Apparently, most of them now request in-person learning," Pramono said.

Meanwhile, the suspected perpetrator, who is a student at the school, is still receiving treatment. "The individual is still under medical care. They have undergone one medical procedure, and now undergoing the second procedure," stated the Director of General Crime Investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin.

Based on the police investigation, the suspected perpetrator reportedly felt lonely and had no outlet to share their grievances with friends or family. The police mentioned that the minor could potentially be charged under Article 80 paragraph 2, in conjunction with Article 76C of the Child Protection Law, Article 355 of the Criminal Code, Article 187 of the Criminal Code, and Article 1 paragraph 1 of Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951.
