TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police arrested an alleged fraud suspect with the initials 'RTI' who swindled several victims, causing losses of more than 1.3 billion. "There are three victims, each suffering losses of Rp35 million, Rp550 million, and Rp800 million," said the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief Commissioner Ronald Sipayung on Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to Ronald, two of the three victims, 'ENA' and 'JN', have officially reported to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police. Meanwhile, one victim who incurred losses of up to Rp800 million is in the process of reporting. "The suspect admitted to defrauding these three victims," said Ronald.
The investigators, Ronald said, are still delving into and expanding the investigation of the alleged fraud involving aspiring pilots, committed by an employee working at one of the companies at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport. According to the Police Chief, the number of victims and the amount of losses are likely to increase. "The suspect's motive for committing this fraud is due to economic reasons," said Ronald.
The alleged fraud against aspiring pilots was revealed after a victim with the initials 'ENA' reported to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police at the end of October 2025. ENA, who was promised by RTI to work as a pilot at a private airline at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, suffered a loss of Rp550 million.
According to the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Commissioner Yandri Mono, the incident began on Sunday, September 15, 2024, when ENA contacted a colleague named 'B' to inquire about job vacancies as a pilot. B then provided RTI's number. The victim then contacted RTI to inquire about the job opportunity. "After a phone conversation, they arranged a meeting," said Yandri.
They met several times at a caf in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area. During the meeting, RTI explained the pilot recruitment mechanism and promised ENA that they could become a pilot at a well-known private airline. "But it required a payment of Rp550 million," said Yandri.
The victim believed all of RTI's statements. ENA agreed and was willing to make the payment through a transfer. The Rp550 million was transferred 8 times to RTI's BRI account in stages. The transactions were made from September 17 to October 20, 2024.
After all the Rp550 million had been transferred, RTI asked for three months for the recruitment process. "The suspect promised that the money would be fully refunded in the event of a failure in the process," said Yandri.
However, until the promised deadline, the victim did not receive any clarity and the perpetrator continued to stall. The victim then realized that they had become a victim of fraud. "The victim eventually reported it to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police," said Yandri.
After ENA reported, the next victim with the initials JN formally reported to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police. The police charged RTI with fraud and embezzlement under articles 378 and 372 of the Indonesian Criminal Code. "With a threat of four years imprisonment," said Yandri.
