TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara (Persero), Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, resigned after only six months in office. He stated that his resignation was due to his inability to contribute to Indonesia's economy and farmers.
"Therefore, we deeply regret and apologize to all citizens, especially farmers, to the nation, and to the President (Prabowo Subianto) who appointed us to this position. Therefore, please allow me to submit my resignation and apologize," said Joao at his office in Jakarta on Monday, August 11, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
He admitted to having a grand vision for maintaining Indonesia's food security. However, along the way, he assessed that the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) had not optimally realized this vision. Danantara was established to assist state-owned companies in achieving peak performance.
"President Prabowo Subianto tasked Danantara with creating a new agency capable of identifying business and investment opportunities, including in the food sector. We feel that Danantara doesn't understand or hasn't demonstrated a sense of crisis, indicating that our food situation is not in good shape," said Joao.
He believes it's crucial for the government to achieve food self-sufficiency and maintain food security for the nation's survival. However, he believes there hasn't been sufficient government intervention in this regard, particularly from Danantara, which oversees state-owned companies and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
Joao also hopes the government can provide support to farmers to increase productivity. However, he continued, the government hasn't been maximizing its efforts in achieving this target, resulting in high prices for food items like rice.
"I'm so eager to contribute, to be involved in developing farming communities and developing our agriculture, but we're not supported by the president's aides, who have created a bureaucratic process that's nearly impossible to achieve," Joao said.
He stated that the food sector is a very serious problem, requiring accelerated efforts and concrete action to develop the lagging agricultural sector. He further stated that his resignation letter had been submitted to Danantara, which was received by staff at the managerial level.
He emphasized that his resignation letter as President Director of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara was submitted in an official letter in accordance with statutory regulations. He stated that he would remain on duty for the next 30 days but would no longer have the authority to sign all documents related to the Company.
