1. Meteor Shower in Australia Tonight: What You Need to Know

Stargazers are set to be spoiled with a phenomenon that NASA has named the best meteor shower in the world. In the northern Australian skies, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 12–13.

Turning up every summer, the Perseid meteor shower is best known for its dazzling, fast-moving meteors, often dubbed the “shooting stars.” While they’re visible to the naked eye, here’s everything you need to know to catch the best view of the 2025 Perseid meteor shower.

Returning every August, the Perseid meteor shower will peak on the nights of Tuesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 13. As noted by Women’s Weekly, the best time to see the Perseids in Australia is between 03:00 AM and 05:00 AM, just before sunrise.

You can expect to catch up to 100 shooting stars per hour, streaking across the sky at an incredible speed of about 59 kilometers per second.

2. Instead of One Piece Flag, Indonesians Are Encouraged by the Govt to Fly the National Flag

The phenomenon of raising flags from the Japanese manga and anime series One Piece ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia has been occurring in various regions. Instead of the Indonesian national flag, some people have been erecting the Jolly Roger pirate flag from the anime series on their houses and vehicles.

In addition to raising the flag, some individuals have also been drawing the skull logo from One Piece on walls and streets in residential areas.

Various measures have been taken by local authorities to encourage their residents to raise the Indonesian national flag instead of other flags during this independence month.

3. Indonesia Announces 19 New Species of Flora and Fauna on Nature Conservation Day

Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry (MoF) stated that there are 19 new flora and fauna species discovered throughout this year. Discoveries from Sabang to Merauke, which have been documented in various scientific journals, were announced close to the National Conservation of Nature Day (HKAN) 2025, on August 10th.

The Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation, Satyawan Pudyatmoko, expressed his hope that HKAN will not only be ceremonial.

"But also a tangible form of our commitment to prioritize conservation in every aspect of life, both social and developmental aspects," he said in a written statement on Monday, August 11, 2025.

The discoveries until mid-2025 turned out to be much less compared to the results of 2024.
