That’s why, rather than a brimming and balmy weather, the Southern Hemisphere will receive the shortest day of the year which marks the arrival of winter. 

Does the Longest Day of the Year Bring the Hottest Weather? 

The longest day of the year happening during the summer solstice doesn’t necessarily bring the hottest weather yet.

According to EarthSky, this is a possible clause due to a phenomenon called the lag of the seasons where it takes time for a season to adapt before it’s on a full force. 

After the freezing winter days, our planet Earth needs to take some time to warm up and eventually melt the mounting snow. While the ice and snow have started to melt since the beginning of spring, the hottest weather will arrive a little later than June. 

What is Stonehenge? 

The summer solstice doesn’t only mark the year’s hottest day, but it also called for celebrations in many European cultures some thousands of years ago. One of which is Stonehenge, an occurrence where people in England were placing huge stones in a circle on a broad plain during the sunrise. 

Moving further into the horizon, two great pyramids and the Sphinx were also built on Egyptian sands when the June solstice arrived. The EarthSky stated that standing at the Sphinx on the summer solstice would allow people to see the sun appearing in between the two pyramids.
