TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Malaysian national has reported an alleged fraud involving the Chief of Sub-Directorate I of the Drug Crime Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner Fahrurozi.
According to the victim's lawyer, Bagas Pangestu Pribadi, Fahrurozi reportedly offered his client to invest in a gold mining business in North Sulawesi. "The high-rank position built our client's trust," said Bagas in his statement on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
According to Bagas, Fahrurozi promised an estimated gold production of 0.8 grams per cubic meter of material. Under this scheme, his client was entitled to 60 percent of the net profit allocation before the principal capital was returned.
After an agreement was reached, according to Bagas, his client then inspected the mining site mentioned by Fahrurozi on May 17-18, 2025. Following the inspection, the investment funds were gradually handed over to Fahrurozi, with a total of approximately Rp58.5 billion paid.
Bagas stated that problems arose when the promise to complete the legality of the mining area in two or three months did not materialize. During that period, Fahrurozi was only suspected of making one payment on February 3, 2026, worth Rp4.77 billion.
According to Bagas, the payment was not given alongside production reports, handover of gold, or any explanation for the nominal calculation. "We believe the payment was intended to prevent our client from claiming the principal capital," said Bagas.
The Malaysian national then reported Fahrurozi's actions on August 20, 2026, with police report number LP/B/379/VIII/2026/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI. The investigation into the case is underway.
Thus far, the police have examined 15 witnesses and inspected two gold mining site locations in North Sulawesi. "We are now waiting for the accused to be summoned," said Bagas.
Meanwhile, Fahrurozi denied allegations of his involvement in the fraud case involving gold mining investment in Sulawesi. "It's not the actual story," said Fahrurozi in his statement to reporters on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Fahrurozi stated that he would report back the Malaysian national for alleged defamation. He also pledged to explain the actual facts in the case as soon as possible.
