TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has recorded that as many as 2.5 million vehicles have returned to Jakarta after the 2026 Eid homecoming period. The Chief of the Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that there are still hundreds of thousands of vehicles that have not returned.
Referring to data from Jasa Marga, Sigit explained that the number of vehicles traveling for Eid homecoming reached 2,946,891. This figure marks a 20.49 percent increase compared to 2025, which recorded 2,894,164 vehicles. The number of vehicles that had entered Jakarta as of Saturday morning, March 28, 2026, was approximately 2,561,629 units.
"Therefore, the actual traffic volume that left Jakarta amounted to 2,946,891 and the current entry to Jakarta is at 2,561,629. There are still 385,262 or 13.07 percent remaining," said Sigit, who was monitoring the Eid return flow at Bakauheni Port on Saturday.
According to him, based on this data, the peak of the return flow has passed. However, he emphasized that the police, along with relevant parties, will continue to ensure the safety and comfort of all citizens.
Regarding the return flow at Bakauheni Port, Sigit also assured that all arrangements, services, and security are running well and optimally. He also added that a scheme for traffic engineering has been prepared.
"However, with good management starting from the delaying system, buffer zone, to arrangements related to ticket checks, Alhamdulillah, everything can be maintained so that the situation remains normal or green," he said.
According to reports he received, many homecomers who have not returned will pass through Ketapang Port. "Then what we need to pay attention to is the area around Ketapang, where there might be an increase in the return flow because there are still around 51 percent who have not yet returned," said Sigit.
Based on his observation, the peak of the second wave of the Eid return flow has occurred since the evening of Friday, March 27, 2026, until Saturday, March 28, 2026. Overall, he stated that the return flow on land, air, and sea routes has been safe and smooth.
