Australian Tourist Recounts Cheeky Monkey Raid in Bali

TEMPO.COJakarta - Monkeys in Bali are known for their mischievous behavior. In addition to snatching tourists' belongings, they sometimes find their way into hotel rooms to rummage through guests' belongings.

This is exactly what happened to an Australian tourist staying at a luxurious villa in Uluwatu. While Jazz Walsh, a Sydney office worker, was enjoying a massage, a monkey entered her room and wreaked havoc.

As reported by the Daily Mail,  a resort staff member sent her a video message showing the chaotic scene. Walsh later shared the story in a TikTok video on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The video showed her room in disarray, with her belongings scattered across the floor.

"Good afternoon, madam. I think a monkey [has come] through your room," a hotel staff member's voice was heard showing her room.

It was believed the monkey entered through a bathroom window before ransacking the space. The staff became aware of the intrusion after finding a pair of headphones that, according to the employee, had been thrown out of the window.

Walsh noted that her AirPods had been taken from their case, which was left behind. "Those silly cheeky Bali monkeys," she wrote in the video's caption.

Despite the chaos, she wasn't upset. "It was hard to be annoyed when it was so funny."

The resort is located near the popular Bingin Beach and is frequented by tourists for its spacious terraces, garden, and cliff-side restaurant.

Unfazed and Eager to Return

Speaking to Perth Now, Walsh stated that the incident would not stop her from returning to Bali. She even hoped to witness the monkeys' antics again.

"The incident definitely won’t stop me from returning to Bali, you’re in the monkeys home environment so it’s something you have to be mindful of. We thought the incident was very funny and quite cute," she said.

Walsh eventually moved to a nearby resort in the mountains of Uluwatu after the incident, but still recommended the first resort to her followers.

Similar Incident Experienced by British Tourist

This is not the first time a tourist has been targeted by monkeys at the villa. Last year, a British tourist named Sylvia wrote a review warning guests to always lock their doors and windows.

"During my stay, [the monkeys] even stole the lightbulbs of my terrace, I mean the audacity!" she wrote on The Good Observer blog.

According to Sylvia, the monkeys would show up at the same time every day. "I locked myself in and I watched them having fun in my pool and everywhere on the terrace!"

Sylvia also described the monkeys as "funny" but advised guests to never leave anything outside and to ensure all doors and windows are securely locked.
