BMKG: Light Rain Expected Across Most of Indonesia Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast light rain across most major cities in the country on Monday, with several regions also facing heavier downpours and thunderstorms.

BMKG forecaster Henokhvita, in a YouTube broadcast followed in Jakarta, said conditions in Sumatra will vary from cloudy to rainy. Banda Aceh and Bengkulu are expected to be overcast, while Palembang may experience hazy conditions.

Light rain is forecast in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Tanjung Pinang, and Pangkal Pinang. Meanwhile, Bandar Lampung should remain alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

In Java, Surabaya is expected to see haze, while Jakarta, Serang, Semarang, and Yogyakarta are likely to experience light rain. Bandung, however, should be prepared for thunderstorms.

Across Kalimantan, light rain is forecast in Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin, while Tanjung Selor may see moderate rainfall.

In Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Denpasar and Mataram are expected to be cloudy, while Kupang will likely see partly sunny conditions.

In Sulawesi, Kendari is forecast to be mostly cloudy. Light rain is expected in Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, and Makassar, while Mamuju may experience moderate rain.

For Maluku and North Maluku, Ambon is expected to be overcast, while Ternate could see moderate rain.

In Papua, Nabire is forecast to experience haze, Jayapura cloudy conditions, and Merauke haze as well. Light rain is expected in Manokwari, Jayawijaya, and Sorong.

BMKG also warned of the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Bangka Belitung Islands, West Java, North Maluku, and Papua.
