Statistics Indonesia (BPS) held a hearing with House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X at the DPR Building on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. During the session, Commission X Deputy Chairperson Lalu Hadrian Irfani noted that discussions centered on discrepancies between official socio-economic decile ratings and actual living conditions on the ground.
Throughout the meeting, Lalu called on BPS to update the data. "We also asked BPS to explain to the public what data sources are being used to determine these decile rankings," he told reporters following the meeting at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Lalu also urged BPS to expedite the review process for citizens seeking to dispute or correct their decile classification. This urgency stems from the fact that access to social assistance hinges on an individual's decile ranking within the National Integrated Social and Economic Database (DTSEN). "[Eligible citizens] should have received this aid, but because of decile issues, they ultimately missed out," Lalu emphasized.
Commission X requested that BPS resolve any filed decile disputes within a maximum timeframe of two weeks. Lalu confirmed that BPS agreed to adopt the proposal.
Earlier, numerous residents voiced frustration over their DTSEN decile status, arguing that the classifications misrepresent their actual economic conditions. In response to these complaints, BPS explained that affected citizens can submit requests for data verification via channels managed by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
BPS Main Secretary Zulkipli noted that citizens can review their status through the Social Assistance Check feature. Should they identify inaccuracies in their recorded decile ranking, they may file an appeal through the objection section on either the BPS DTSEN portal or the Social Ministry's Social Assistance Check platform to request a re-evaluation reflecting their true economic standing.
Meanwhile, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the government remains open to data corrections for citizens whose assigned deciles do not match reality. "We ask the public to report any cases where aid recipients are actually ineligible, or conversely, where eligible individuals have been excluded, so we can fix it immediately," Saifullah said after attending a hearing with DPR Commission VIII in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, August 31, 2026.
He added that citizens can submit updates through established administrative and public-participatory channels. The formal route involves consultations at the neighborhood and community unit (RT/RW) levels, progressing through the sub-district office to local social services via the SIKS-NG application. Alternatively, the participatory route allows direct submissions through the Social Assistance Check application, call center, or WhatsApp center.
