TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's state-owned airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia or InJourney Airports, has prepared hundreds of extra flights to anticipate passenger surge during the 2026 Eid homecoming return traffic.
President Director Mohammad Rizal Pahlevi said InJourney Airports have implemented optimal slot time by providing additional flights across the company's 37 airports. "This is in line with the growing demand for air travel during the Eid return traffic," said Rizal in a written statement on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
"As airport operators, InJourney Airports ensures the availability of slot times at the airport for the extra flights by airlines," he said, adding that the company is committed to strengthening aviation connectivity and accessibility in Indonesia.
During the 2026 Eid al-Fitr return travel, a total of 784 extra flights have been operated, with 124 extra flights on March 22, 211 extra flights on March 23, and 284 extra flights on March 24, 2026.
According to Rizal, these extra flights are operated on top of regular flights and could potentially increase by March 30, or the end of the Eid homecoming travel period.
InJourney Airports, he said, is working with relevant stakeholders to monitor traffic developments and ensure smooth service at airports. During the Eid travel period from March 13 to 21, 2026, approximately 2,400 extra flights were operated on various flight routes.
InJourney Airports recorded an increase in flight traffic during the Eid al-Fitr return traffic across all of its airports, with 468,604 passengers and 3,265 flights on March 22.
This figure then increased by about 14.4 percent on March 23, 2026, reaching 536,109 passengers with 3,636 flights. Then on March 24, 2026, the number of passengers reached 583,815, up by 8.9 percent compared to the previous day.
Rizal further stated that InJourney Airports' main focus during this Eid exodus is proper handling of passenger luggage, accessibility to and from the airport, and the availability of public transportation at the airport.
"We have made various improvements to facilities and infrastructure and coordinated with relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth and swift handling of passenger baggage, the availability of public transportation, and accessibility to and from the airport," said Rizal.
The Eid homecoming period across 37 InJourney Airports-operated airports will last until March 30, 2026, with the company expecting to serve 9 million passengers.
