TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has denied reports from several Israeli media outlets claiming that President Prabowo Subianto will visit Israel in the coming days after attending a high-level conference for Gaza peace in Egypt.
"It's not true. As per the initial plan, the President will return to the homeland after the event in Egypt is completed," stated Foreign Minister Sugiono in a written statement on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Prior to this denial, Israeli outlets such as Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), The Times of Israel, i24NEWS, and Channel 12 had reported Prabowo's alleged visit to Israel on October 14-15, 2025.
The speculation was amplified by Israeli influencer and close associate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hananya Naftali. Naftali posted about Prabowo's planned visit to the Zionist state.
"BREAKING NEWS: The President of Indonesia might come to Israel tomorrow, Israeli media reports. I hope this will happen. Time to make peace," Naftali wrote on his Instagram account, @hnaftali, on October 12, 2025, ending the post with the flags of Israel and Indonesia.
Hananya Naftali is an influencer known for opposing antisemitism, anti-Zionism, and the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement. According to The Jerusalem Post, Naftali previously worked as a close aide on Netanyahu's digital team.
Prabowo's Current Agenda in Egypt
President Prabowo is currently in Egypt to attend the Gaza-Israel peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, where he is scheduled to witness the signing of the peace agreement and cessation of hostilities in Gaza.
The summit is expected to be attended by several world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Muhammad bin Salman Al Saud, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The visit rumors come amid recent statements from President Prabowo advocating for the Two-State Solution. He previously pledged Indonesia's future recognition of Israel contingent upon the establishment of an independent Palestine.
