TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stated that participants in the National Internship Program are entitled to receive payment equal to the minimum wage in the region where they work. He mentioned that the ministry already regulates this provision and that it is mandatory for all companies that accept interns.

"In the internship program, the term salary is not recognized because the focus is on improving competencies. However, participants are still entitled to receive compensation in the form of a pocket money equivalent to the minimum wage," said Yassierli during a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Monday, October 13, 2025.

Yassierli explained that the compensation standard follows the Minimum Wage for Regencies/Cities (UMK) in each area. If a region does not have UMK, the reference used is the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP). "For example, in Jakarta, the pocket money is Rp5.3 million, in accordance with the applicable minimum wage," he said.

Yassierli added that incentives or compensation for interns will be transferred directly to each participant by the program organizer. He emphasized that this provision must be complied with by companies participating in the National Internship Program.

"The minimum wage has been regulated and is mandatory. So companies cannot provide below that standard," he said.

Furthermore, Yassierli explained that the National Internship Program is designed to be mutually beneficial for both companies and participants. Through this program, companies receive additional manpower to help their business activities, while participants gain real work experience and skill enhancement.

"This program should be beneficial for both parties. Companies receive intern support, while recent graduates can learn directly in the working world," he said.

According to Yassierli, this policy is also part of the government's efforts to ensure that internships are conducted in accordance with the principles of justice, usefulness, and protection for all participants.

Yassierli conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto has requested that internship opportunities be widely available and distributed evenly in all provinces. Therefore, the Ministry of Manpower has urged all regional heads to encourage more companies and institutions to participate.

"The President's directive is clear: internship opportunities must be given as widely as possible and evenly distributed in all provinces. Not only for graduates, but also diploma graduates," he said.

The Ministry of Manpower has announced an extension of the registration period for companies wishing to participate in the 2025 National Internship Program until October 15, 2025, due to high interest from the business world. The Head of Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Manpower, Sunardi Manampiar Sinaga, stated that as of October 12, 2025, there were 1,112 companies registered. The list of participating companies can be accessed through the Maganghub.kemnaker.go.id website.

The government stated that the 2025 National Internship Program aims to provide opportunities for recent university graduates to gain work experience for six months. Interns will receive wages equivalent to UMP.
