TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After a long stretch of teases and careful preparation, the magical world of Hogwarts is ready to welcome its new students. The first trailer for HBO’s upcoming 'Harry Potter' TV Series has officially been released, offering intriguing glimpses into its much-anticipated new take.
Set to premiere globally during Christmas 2026, the series’ first season will explore the opening chapter of J.K. Rowling’s seven-novel saga. Much like the 2001 film, it adapts the original title, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
“You are a normal boy. You think you’re something special? There is nothing special about you,” Aunt Petunia’s chilling words set the tone, as the trailer revisits Harry’s life in the cupboard under the stairs at the Dursleys’ home.
Viewers see him being bullied by his cousin Dudley and enduring a painful haircut forced upon him by his aunt. Just after this bleak sequence, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry finally arrives in the boy-who-lived’s hands as he turns eleven.
From that very moment, a life-changing adventure begins. After gathering his school essentials alongside Hagrid, Harry is seen running through the iconic Platform 9¾. He boards the train, catching a glimpse of Ron hugging his mother goodbye before Hermione soon joins the two in the train car.
Upon arriving at the grand wizarding school, viewers are introduced to a host of beloved characters, from Professor McGonagall to Headmaster Dumbledore, along with the enigmatic Severus Snape. The trailer also recreates several memorable moments, including the trio’s exploration of Hogwarts and Harry’s first Quidditch game, according to Cinema Express.
As Variety and Deadline note, HBO’s 'Harry Potter' TV series features a largely refreshed cast. Newcomer Dominic McLaughlin takes on the role of the boy-who-lived, joined by Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
The supporting cast includes Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The series is written by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing. Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling, who has faced ongoing backlash over her anti-transgender comments, also serves as an executive producer on the project.
