TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will repatriate one Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldier who died while on duty in a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). "Indonesia is collaborating with UNIFIL to ensure the repatriation of the body is done promptly," said Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang in a written statement on Monday, March 30, 2026.

She also mentioned that the government will provide medical care to three TNI soldiers who were injured in the artillery attack. "Our prayers and sympathy go out to the families left behind, and we pray for a full recovery for the injured personnel," she said.

The incident took place in Southern Lebanon, near Adchit Al Qusayr, on Sunday, March 29, 2026. It involved an attack between the Israeli military and armed groups, which hit the position of the Indonesian peacekeeping contingent near Adchit Al Qusayr. One soldier was killed, and three others were injured. "Indonesia strongly condemns the incident and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation," she said.

Yvonne declared that Israel's attack on the peacekeeping forces is unacceptable and calls for a comprehensive and transparent investigation. She added that actions endangering peacekeeping forces could disrupt joint efforts in maintaining peace and stability. "The safety and security of UN peacekeeping personnel must be fully respected in accordance with international law," she said.

The government, according to Yvonne, urges all parties to respect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to stop attacks endangering civilians and civil infrastructure, including promoting priority of dialogues and diplomacy to prevent escalation. "Indonesia continues to coordinate with the UN and relevant authorities closely, and will continue to monitor the situation carefully," she stated.

Separately, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the incident. Through a statement on platform X on the same day, Guterres mentioned that an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed in the midst of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

Guterres expressed his condolences to the Indonesian nation, especially the victims' families, and hoped for the swift recovery of the injured personnel.

He noted that the incident is part of a series of events endangering the safety of peacekeeping forces. "I call on all to uphold their obligations under international law and to ensure the safety & security of UN personnel and property at all times," Guterres said.
