TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has opened a public consultation on the draft of its roadmap for Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is a component of a presidential regulation concerning AI safety and security.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, stated that the initial draft of the AI roadmap has been completed after discussions with numerous stakeholders.
"There are 7 working groups involved, and each discussion is attended with enthusiasm by the stakeholders, reaching up to 300-350 participants in one session. We have held approximately 21 discussion sessions," Patria said in a statement released on Friday, August 8, 2025.
Nezar hopes the final AI roadmap will represent the interests of all stakeholders. After the public consultation, the draft will be submitted to the State Secretariat Ministry.
"The next step is to conduct a public consultation, then draft preparation, and then we will submit it to the State Secretariat Ministry, followed by a kind of harmonization with the Ministry of Law," Nezar explained.
The Ministry aims to complete the entire process of designing and preparing the AI roadmap by the end of September.
Two Key Drafts for Public Review
Meanwhile, Director General of the Digital Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, confirmed that both the AI roadmap and the draft presidential regulation will soon enter the public consultation phase.
"There are indeed 2 drafts, the earlier one being the roadmap, including its white paper. The other is the draft Presidential regulation for the safety and security of AI. So, there are two sets which will soon undergo public consultation," Edwin said.
Edwin noted that the drafts will be uploaded to the Ministry's website either at the beginning of this week or next week to gather public input before their official launch.
The process for drafting the presidential regulation has been long-standing, beginning with a study in February. This was followed by discussions over the past two to three months, which included 21 meetings with Working Group 433, involving representatives from 40 different ministries and agencies.
