TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra of the Republic of Peru have agreed to cooperate in the eradication of narcotics and illegal trade. Both countries have also agreed to collaborate in the fields of food, mining, energy transition, fisheries, and defense. However, Prabowo did not provide details on the form of this cooperation.
"We believe that the future cooperation will be even more productive," said Prabowo in a joint press statement in the credential room, Istana Merdeka, Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Indonesia and Peru also agreed to sign the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Prabowo stated that the cooperation would expand market access and boost trading activities between the two countries.
According to Prabowo, negotiations to reach the CEPA agreement usually take years. However, Indonesia and Peru were able to conclude the negotiations in 14 months.
The former Minister of Defense stated that the two heads of state also discussed the global situation. Prabowo supported Peru to become a partner country of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Prabowo highlighted Peru's leadership in implementing the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2024.
"We are also committed to enhancing cooperation as fellow Pacific countries," he said.
Prabowo also appreciated Peru's support for the independence of Palestine from Israeli occupation. Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Peru will collaborate to find a solution that benefits both countries.
During this occasion, Prabowo presented the highest honor, the Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna, to the President of the Republic of Peru, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, at Istana Merdeka in Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 11, 2025. Zegarra is considered to have contributed to and played a role in enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Zegarra's visit today is in response to Prabowo's visit to Peru on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Back then, Prabowo met Zegarra at the Nega Peru Palace in Lima.
During that time, Prabowo and Zegarra also discussed cooperation in combating narcotics, as well as the shared views of the two countries on the international stage. However, no details were provided on this issue.
