TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Over the span of 17 days, over 147.55 million Indonesians travel during the annual Eid homecoming season, according to monitoring through the Mobile Positioning Data. Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said this figure exceeded the initial projection calculated through a survey.
"The number of people traveling reached 147.55 million, a 2.53 percent growth compared to the survey result of 143.92 million," said Dudy in Jakarta on Monday, March 30, 2026.
The increase in mobility is also reflected in the number of public transportation users. During the Eid holiday season, Dudy mentioned that the total number of public transportation passengers reached 23.54 million, up 10.87 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
When broken down by mode of transportation, all types of transport experienced an increase in the number of passengers. Dudy explained that ground transportation grew by 11.64 percent, sea transportation increased by 9.86 percent, aviation services rose by 6.97 percent, and train service recorded a 10.13 percent growth. The highest surge occurred in crossing transportation services, reaching 15.36 percent.
Regarding private vehicles, he stated that the outflow of vehicles from the Greater Jakarta region was dominated by movements towards the eastern part of Java Island.
Dudy noted that 50 percent of private vehicles leaving Greater Jakarta headed towards Central Java and East Java. Meanwhile, vehicles heading westward to West Java, Banten, and Sumatra accounted for 22 percent.
