TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, said preparations for the country’s 2026 Hajj operations are nearly complete, with readiness approaching 100 percent.

“We are continuing to finalize our operational readiness. Our main focus is ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims through comprehensive mitigation measures,” Yusuf said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, he said, is committed to ensuring that this year’s pilgrimage is managed with smooth, transparent, and clean public service, free from any form of irregularity.

Yusuf said East Java, the province with Indonesia’s largest Hajj quota, serves as a key barometer for the success of the country’s overall Hajj operations.

On the management of Hajj funds, which total around Rp18 trillion (about US$1 billion), he stressed the need for accountability in every stage of budgeting and implementation.

To ensure transparency, the ministry has involved oversight from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Attorney General’s Office, and the National Police (Polri) to monitor procurement and financial governance.

The measures follow President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to ensure transparent Hajj services focused on pilgrim satisfaction.

The ministry previously announced the 2026 Hajj schedule, with pilgrims set to begin entering Hajj dormitories on April 21.

The first wave of departures will begin on April 22, followed by the second wave on May 7. Returning pilgrims are scheduled to arrive home between June 1 and July 1, 2026.
