TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Red and White flag was flown at half-mast in the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Similar scenes were also observed at the Ministry of State Secretariat Complex.
Tempo attempted to contact Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi for comment, but he has yet to respond.
The half-mast tribute follows an appeal from the Ministry of Culture, which instructed government institutions and the public to lower the national flag on September 30 as part of the lead-up to Pancasila Sanctity Day, observed annually on October 1.
The directive was outlined in Circular No. 8417/MK.L/TU.02.03/2025, signed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon on September 17.
“On September 30, 2025, all central and regional government offices, Indonesian diplomatic missions abroad, educational institutions, and the public are requested to fly the Red and White flag at half-mast. Then, on October 1 at 06:00 AM local time, the flag should be raised to full-mast,” the circular stated.
The letter also detailed the procedures for both government offices and the wider community in carrying out the half-mast and full-mast ceremonies.
Minister Fadli announced that this year’s Pancasila Sanctity Day will carry the theme: “Pancasila, the Nation’s Cohesion towards a Great Indonesia.”
The central commemoration ceremony will be held at the Pancasila Sakti Monument in Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta, while regional ceremonies will take place at local offices or institutions as determined by regional leaders.
Fadli further encouraged the public to follow his official address on October 1. “The public is invited to listen to the Minister of Culture’s speech through the Ministry of Culture’s YouTube channel or Indonesiana TV,” he said.
