TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has conferred the Bintang Jasa Utama, one of Indonesia’s highest civilian honors, on Ray Dalio, founder of the hedge fund Bridgewater Associates.
The award was presented during a luncheon at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the medal was given as a gesture of appreciation for Dalio’s contributions and support.
“The President invited Ray Dalio to lunch. At the conclusion of the event, he expressed his appreciation by awarding him the Republic of Indonesia’s highest service medal,” Airlangga explained at the Presidential Palace complex.
Earlier that morning, Prabowo held a meeting with Dalio to discuss a range of issues, from his recent trip to the United Nations to government priorities.
“They spoke about global geopolitical dynamics and the programs the government has carried out over the past 10 to 11 months,” Airlangga said.
According to him, Prabowo also highlighted his administration’s anti-corruption initiatives and environmental efforts, including measures to preserve 4 million hectares of palm oil plantations. The President also spoke about the government’s approach to the mining sector, from coal to rare earth minerals.
Airlangga noted that Dalio welcomed the briefing and encouraged the government to communicate the achievements more clearly to the public.
Responding to reports that Dalio is no longer a member of the advisory board of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, BPI Danantara, Airlangga clarified that the American investor still took part in Danantara’s activities.
“He was present at the event earlier today,” he said.
Dalio is best known as the founder of Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund, which manages around US$124 billion in assets. He has long taken an interest in Indonesia, offering economic advice on several occasions.
Former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan once consulted Dalio on the idea of establishing a family office in the country.
