TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) announced the seizure of more than one ton of narcotics over the past three months, along with the arrest of thousands of suspects linked to the drug trade.

Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri said the total volume of narcotics confiscated between July and September 2025 reached 1.14 tons.

“If converted to black market value, the drugs are worth around Rp1.13 trillion,” Asep stated at a press conference on Monday, September 30, 2025.

The seized drugs included 604 kilograms of methamphetamine, 221 kilograms of marijuana, and 164 kilograms of Happy Five pills. Police also confiscated various other narcotics such as ketamine, MDMA (ecstasy), synthetic tobacco, liquid methamphetamine, and several other hard drugs.

Director of Narcotics Investigation Commissioner Ahmad David reported that police arrested 2,318 people in connection with the drug cases.

“The majority are drug users. Of the total, 1,542 are addicts or victims of drug crimes, and for them we apply restorative justice,” David explained.

The suspects face charges under Articles 114(2), 112(2), and 111(2) in conjunction with Article 132(1) of Indonesia’s Narcotics Law. The potential penalties range from a minimum of five years in prison to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

David emphasized that the crackdown was a major success, claiming it prevented around 4.5 million people from falling victim to drug abuse. “The disclosure of these cases is critical given Jakarta’s high vulnerability to narcotics circulation,” he said.
