TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto met with Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the meeting covered a wide array of topics, from Prabowo's recent visit to the UN to the government's current programs.
"They discussed various matters related to Prabowo's visit to the UN, then discussed the global geopolitical situation. The President also explained the programs that have been implemented over the past 10 to 11 months," Airlangga said at the Presidential Palace Complex on Tuesday.
Airlangga, the former Chair of the Golkar Party, stated that Prabowo highlighted several programs aimed at eradicating corruption. Furthermore, Prabowo outlined the government's efforts to save 4 million hectares of oil palm land, an effort that "The same goes for mining, whether it's coal mines or mines related to rare earths," Airlangga added.
Ray Dalio, in turn, offered feedback, stressing the importance of clearly conveying the success of Prabowo's policies to the public.
The meeting concluded with a lunch invitation from Prabowo. Airlangga confirmed that the President also awarded Dalio the Bintang Jasa Utama (Order of Distinguished Stars). "The President expressed appreciation to Ray Dalio in the form of bestowing the highest award from the Republic of Indonesia," he stated.
Regarding the issue of Dalio's status with Danantara's Board of Trustees, Airlangga simply noted that the investor "attended the Danantara event" earlier that day.
Ray Dalio is the founder of Bridgewater Associates, the world's largest hedge fund, which manages assets worth US$124 billion. He has previously provided advice on Indonesia's economic conditions. For instance, while serving as the Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan once consulted with Dalio regarding the concept for establishing a family office.
