TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism is seeking partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA) to strengthen air connectivity between Indonesia and Japan and open up opportunities for new flight routes to various tourist destinations in Indonesia.
“We see a great opportunity to expand connectivity between Indonesia and Japan, not only through Jakarta but also to other destinations such as Yogyakarta,” said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Monday, March 30, 2026, as quoted from Antara.
During a bilateral meeting with ANA Senior Executive Vice President Juichi Hirasawa in Tokyo, Japan, Widiyanti noted that strengthened connectivity could provide broader access for Japanese tourists to enjoy Indonesia’s rich culture, natural beauty, and high-quality travel experiences.
She emphasized air connectivity as a key factor in boosting tourist arrivals and tourism cooperation between the two nations.
The Indonesian government is also pushing ANA to explore the development of new routes to other destinations in Indonesia, including Yogyakarta—known as the cultural center of Java and the gateway to the Borobudur World Heritage Site—which is supported by Yogyakarta International Airport, capable of handling wide-body aircraft.
Additionally, connectivity development can be expanded from major Japanese cities such as Osaka, thereby providing Japanese tourists with more access options to reach various premier destinations in Indonesia.
The meeting also discussed opportunities for tourism promotion collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and ANA, including through familiarization trips for Japanese travel agents, media, and influencers to increase the exposure of Indonesian destinations in the Japanese market.
Furthermore, promotional opportunities through the use of various ANA-owned promotional platforms, such as in-flight magazines, digital channels, and the ANA Mileage Club network, were explored to expand the reach of promotional efforts.
The meeting is also expected to be integrated with the national “Wonderful Indonesia” campaign, including through participation in various tourism events in Japan such as the Tourism Expo Japan, and to reaffirm Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between the tourism sector and the aviation industry as a crucial component in driving tourist visit growth and deepening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
On that occasion, the Minister of Tourism also expressed appreciation for ANA’s role in supporting connectivity between the two countries through the Tokyo–Jakarta flight service, which has long been a backbone of tourist mobility and people-to-people exchange between Indonesia and Japan.
