TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tehran has urged Indonesian citizens in Iran to increase their vigilance following the United States and Israel’s attacks on the country and the escalating security tensions in the Middle East.
In an Instagram post on Saturday, the embassy called on Indonesians to remain calm and immediately take steps to protect themselves and their families at home, as reported by Antara. Citizens were also asked to actively update the embassy on the security situation in their respective areas through existing coordination groups and to comply with local authorities’ regulations and directives.
For emergencies, the embassy provided a consular assistance hotline at +989024668889. It added that it would continue intensive communication with Indonesian nationals to monitor developments and determine strategic steps based on conditions on the ground.
On Saturday, February 28, Israel and the United States launched a new military strike against Iran. The operation marked the second such attack under the administration of Donald Trump, following a similar action in June 2025.
Trump said American forces were conducting major military operations in Iran to protect their people by eliminating what he described as the threat posed by Tehran’s alleged nuclear weapons development. In a separate statement, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, “The Iranian regime was warned. CENTCOM is now delivering swift and decisive action as directed,” as quoted from X.
The strikes came despite previous diplomatic efforts. Washington and Tehran had held three rounds of indirect talks on Iran’s nuclear program, mediated by Oman, amid rising tensions.
The first and second rounds took place earlier this month in Muscat and Geneva, focusing on limiting Iran’s uranium enrichment levels and stockpiles in exchange for sanctions relief. The third round was held on February 26 in Geneva, only days before the latest attacks by the US and Israel, as regional security conditions deteriorated.
