TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Monday, March 30, 2026, extended condolences to the Indonesian government and people following the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran extends its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Indonesia for the tragic passing of an Indonesian peacekeeper serving under UNIFIL,” the embassy said in a statement received by Tempo.

The embassy also condemned the attack, linking it to the ongoing conflict in the region.

“We strongly condemn this heinous act, which is a direct result of the ongoing aggression by Israel, carried out with the full involvement and support of the United States,” the statement said.

According to the Iranian Embassy, attacks on peacekeepers constitute a serious violation of international law and must not go unpunished.

The incident left one Indonesian peacekeeper dead and three others injured while on duty with UNIFIL in southern Lebanon.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the casualties occurred after an indirect artillery strike hit the position of the Indonesian contingent near Adchit Al Qusayr on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The attack took place amid reports of exchanges of fire between the Israeli military and armed groups in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), as cited by Anadolu, reported that Israeli artillery shelling struck the headquarters of the Indonesian contingent serving with UN forces in Adshit al-Qusayr.
