TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Iranian Red Crescent Society said the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran has killed 201 people, with 747 injured.
A spokesperson for the Red Crescent, in comments broadcast on Iranian state TV, said 24 out of Iran's 31 provinces have been impacted by the strikes. Hundreds of teams are now responding to the attacks across the country.
Iranian state media also reported that the death toll from an attack on a school in southern Iran has killed at least 108 schoolgirls. The school is located in Iran's Hormozgan province in the town of Minab.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry called the attack on the school "a blatant crime."
The latest death tolls provided by the Iranian Red Crescent Society and state media are unable to be independently confirmed by DW.
The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026, targeting Tehran's top leaders and plunging the Middle East into an increasingly widespread conflict. Trump said the operation would eliminate the security threat to the US and give the people of Iran the chance to overthrow their rulers.
Iranian state media Fars reported that the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed. The announcement was made after US President Donald Trump announced the death of Khamenei on Truth Social on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
