TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov stated that his country and its capital, Moscow, remain safe destinations for foreign tourists despite regional conflicts stretching across Russia's borders.

"The situation in Moscow is proceeding as usual, normal, and there are no security issues. Our cooperation has not been disrupted, even in the tourism sector," Tolchenov said in a press conference held by the Moscow City Tourism Committee (Mostourism) in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by ANTARA.

He said the Russian federal government and the Moscow City government continue to take steps to ensure that residents and visiting foreign tourists can enjoy normal life. The ambassador added that many Indonesian tourists, businesspeople, and government officials were amazed by how safe and normal Moscow was, despite the ongoing conflict.

Tolchenov also said that some time ago, he had received two young Indonesian women who had just completed a summer program in the Krasnodar region near the Black Sea, which is very close to the conflict-torn regions of Crimea and Ukraine. “They said they were very happy when they were there,” he added.

Indonesians' interest in participating in cultural activities in Russia remains high, as demonstrated by the approximately 80 Indonesian youth who will be taking part in an international youth festival in Yekaterinburg this week, he said.

Thus, Ambassador Tolchenov assured Indonesians planning to travel to Russia that they need not worry about security conditions in the country, including in the capital city of Moscow.

Meanwhile, Maria Pasuginova, Head of the Department for Asian, CIS, and Latin American Affairs at Moscow Tourism, revealed that her department is working to optimize Muslim-friendly tourism in Moscow to boost visits by Indonesian tourists there.

"Moscow is developing a Muslim-friendly environment, including for Indonesian tourists, and we are working hard to increase the number of restaurants and hotels that can cater well to Muslim tourists," she said.

She hopes this step will optimize the positive growth momentum of Indonesian tourists to Moscow. In the first half of 2026, the number of Indonesian tourists to Moscow reached 3,600, a 12 percent increase from the same period in 2025. A total of 7,500 Indonesian tourists visited Moscow in 2025.
