TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to IQAir on Tuesday morning, Jakarta's air quality was categorized as unhealthy, as residents' activities returned to normal after the long Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday.
The Air Quality Index (AQI), monitored at 6:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), showed Jakarta ranked 10th among cities with unhealthy air quality.
Jakarta's score was 127, with a PM2.5 concentration of 46 micrograms per cubic meter, which can harm humans and sensitive animals, or cause damage to plants or aesthetic values.
The public was also advised to maintain their health and wear masks when outside.
Meanwhile, air quality is categorized as good, meaning air quality that does not affect human or animal health and does not affect plants, buildings, or aesthetic values, with a PM2.5 range of 0-50.
Next, the moderate category, which means air quality that does not affect human or animal health, but does affect sensitive plants and aesthetics, has a PM2.5 range of 51-100.
Furthermore, the very unhealthy category has a PM2.5 range of 200-299, meaning the air quality can be detrimental to the health of some segments of the exposed population. Finally, the hazardous category (300-500) generally refers to air quality that can seriously harm the health of the population.
The city with the worst air quality is Delhi, India, with a score of 198. Chiang Mai, Thailand, is second with a score of 190. Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, is third with a score of 177. Kathmandu, Nepal, is fourth with a score of 166. Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is fifth with a score of 163.
The Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) has launched an integrated air quality monitoring platform supported by 31 Air Quality Monitoring Stations (SPKU) spread across the metropolitan area. The data from the SPKU is then displayed through an air quality monitoring platform.
The page also displays data from 31 SPKUs in Jakarta, integrating data from the SPKUs of the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, and Vital Strategies.
Previously, traffic on Jalan Basuki Rachmat, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, was again congested, causing long traffic jams after the long Eid al-Fitr holiday of 2026.
On the first day back to work, Monday morning (March 30th), heavy traffic was visible on several main roads, including Jalan Basuki Rachmat, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, heading towards Jalan Raya Casablanca, Tebet, South Jakarta.
Observations at the location showed hundreds of vehicles congesting the road since morning. Traffic flow appeared congested with congested conditions.
Private vehicles and motorcycles dominated the roads, as people's activities returned to normal after the long Eid al-Fitr holiday.
The traffic congestion is exacerbated by the increasing volume of vehicles from Bekasi heading to the office complexes in Tebet and Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta.
This route is known as one of the main access routes for workers from the buffer zone to the capital's business center.
