TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that the state budget remains stable despite mounting concerns over global economic turmoil sparked by conflicts in the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

"We always maintain a sustainable budget. So, we still have room to provide a cushion against the global economic turmoil," Purbaya said during a press conference held via Zoom on Tuesday evening, March 31, 2026.

He explained that the government's budget calculations remain on a controlled path, with the deficit proceeding according to plan. According to the Minister, these calculations utilize the average assumption of the US dollar exchange rate through the end of the year.

The state treasurer maintained there is no reason for the public to worry about the 2026 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). He noted that the government has calculated budget projections through the end of the year and ensured they remain under control.

In response to global dynamics that are expected to impact the domestic supply chain and energy sectors, the government has implemented several efficiency measures. Some of these policies include the implementation of remote work or work-from-home (WFH) mandates for civil servants (ASN) every Friday.

Furthermore, the government has introduced limitations on the use of official vehicles by up to 50 percent, alongside a 50 percent reduction in domestic official travel and a 70 percent cut in international travel.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto mentioned that the ASN WFH policy has the potential to save Rp6.2 trillion in fuel compensation within the 2026 State Budget. He also estimated that public savings on fuel expenses could reach as high as Rp59 trillion.
