TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met President Vladimir Putin to consult on global geopolitical developments during a bilateral meeting at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Prabowo conveyed the purpose of his visit, expressing appreciation to Putin for Russia’s support for Indonesia.
“Your Excellency, I also came to consult because the global geopolitical situation is developing and changing very rapidly,” Prabowo told Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on Monday, as quoted from a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
Prabowo assessed that Russia plays an important role in the global context, saying Indonesia needs insights and input from Moscow.
“We see that Russia has played a very positive role in facing this highly uncertain geopolitical situation,” he said.
Furthermore, the Head of State said both countries need to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and energy sectors.
“Therefore, we feel it is very necessary to consult on how we should face future conditions, especially if we can continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the economic and energy sectors,” Prabowo said.
During the meeting, Prabowo also expressed gratitude to the Russian government for its support for Indonesia, including in the process of Indonesia’s swift acceptance as a member of BRICS.
For Prabowo, Russia has also supported various crucial needs of Indonesia in several strategic areas. “In several very important aspects for Indonesia, President Putin has supported and provided assistance for Indonesia’s needs,” he said.
