TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism that Indonesia's economic growth can touch 6 percent by the end of 2026. He noted that this target is backed by steadily rising investment realization and strong economic momentum throughout the first half of 2026.
Prabowo cited that investment realization throughout 2025 reached Rp1,931 trillion, generating approximately 2.7 million jobs. Meanwhile, investment realization in the first half of 2026 touched Rp1,010 trillion, absorbing roughly 1.4 million workers into the labor market.
On the macroeconomic front, Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia posted a 5.61 percent growth in the first quarter of 2026 and a cumulative 5.45 percent growth across the first half of the year. According to the Head of State, these figures mark the highest first-quarter and first-half growth rates recorded over the past 13 years.
"With appropriate, rational policies that utilize common sense, I am confident that our economic growth can reach 6 percent by the end of this year," Prabowo said in his State Address at the MPR Annual Session in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Nevertheless, Prabowo underscored that economic growth and investment figures are not the administration's ultimate benchmarks. He asserted that economic progress must translate directly into tangible welfare improvements for the public, particularly low-income groups.
"High growth cannot be enjoyed by our people; most of it is of no benefit to us. Every rupiah of investment must create jobs and improve the quality of life of our people, especially those at the bottom," he said.
Prabowo also stressed that the government must not ignore citizens still enduring financial hardship and food insecurity. He stated that as a member of the G20, Indonesia cannot tolerate conditions where its people are still experiencing hunger. "A strong nation is one capable of feeding its own people," Prabowo concluded.
